Why Your Writing Business Needs Your Words Too

Before you start your next client project, ask yourself—when was the last time you wrote something for your own business? Too many freelance writers focus so much on client work that they forget to build their own brand and attract better opportunities. But writing for yourself isn’t just a luxury—it’s a necessity if you want to grow.
In this week’s post, I break down why you should be writing for your own business, before you write for your clients.

Books Worth Reading
The Women: A Novel (by Kristin Hannah)
My husband saw this book in one of his blitzes through a bookshop and bought it for me for Christmas. He said he thought I'd like it, being the feisty proponent that I am of women being able to control their own lives.
He was right.
"The Women: A Novel" tells the story of naive young Frances "Frankie" McGrath, who has an epiphany when a friend of her soldier brother tells her that a woman can be a hero, too. So she joins the US military and ends up in Vietnam as a nurse.
This highly-researched, and very well-written book follows Frankie's journey from young innocent to broken veteran who is stunned when she returns to the US expecting a hero's welcome, only to have people tell her that there were no women in the military in Vietnam.
Highly recommended. I couldn't put it down.
What We're Loving
Cync Programmable Light Bulb
I don't know about your kids or grandkids, but my granddaughter likes to get up at the crack of dawn.
No. BEFORE dawn. And when she gets up, she wants company. So when we're visiting, she bangs on our door to let us know she's up. And when we're not visiting, she bangs on her parents' door.
So ... recently, my daughter and I went to the local hardware shop and bought this beautiful programable lightbulb. You can set the colour and time for when the light goes on and off.
And once we figured out that you have to leave the light switch set to "on", it worked like a charm.
Cync's programable light bulb is truly the sweetest thing I've ever bought for under $20!
My Warm Vest
On days when the weather is just weird ... cold one minute and warm the next, my puffer vest from The North Face is the perfect thing. It keeps my core toasty warm, while leaving my arms free to enjoy whatever winter, spring (or autumn) breeze is blowing. I love that the vest scrunches up into a small space. It easily fits into my backpack along with my laptop and office gear, so I often take it with me if I'm unsure what the weather will be doing.
