Is Your Marketing Getting The Results You Want?

This week, as part of our series on writing about your own freelance writing business (instead of just for your clients), we’re tackling a common frustration—spinning your wheels with marketing that doesn’t get results. If you’ve ever felt like you’re putting in tons of effort but not seeing real growth, you might be stuck in the “gerbil wheel” of content marketing.

In this blog post, I’ll walk you through how to shift from endless hustle to building a flywheel—a marketing system that works for you over time, not the other way around.

In keeping with this month's theme of marketing your writing business, I wanted to share one of Treasa's recent interviews with podcast guest, Jamie Brindle.

Self-Publishing Like a Pro: Michele DeFilippo’s Guide to Indie Success
Recently I interviewed publishing expert, Michele DeFilippo, about the things you need to know if you're going to self-publish your book (or help someone else self-publish). She had some really valuable tips to share.
Influence
Robert Cialdini's book on the art of getting people to say "yes" is a classic. It's one of those "must reads" for anyone who needs to make other people aware of (and want) what you have to offer (I'm looking at you, writing business owner). I like it that he focuses on how to do that ethically. Cause ain't no one wants sleazy, manipulative marketing shoved down their throat. (Affiliate link).

What We're Loving
Please note that in this section we often use affiliate links. We only recommend things we love and that we think you might enjoy too.
Dear You, Love From Your Brain: A Book for Kids About the Brain, by psychologist Karen Young
My niece, who is also a psychologist, introduced me to this book. Partly because she knows I love a well-put together children's book. And partly because my young grandchildren take delight in discovering what makes them, "them". Not to mention learning things that help them take control of their mental state and physical actions.
It's one of the best books I've seen (for kids AND adults), that describes in simple, easy to understand language, what our brains do for us. And how to keep them working at their best for us. Highly recommended. (Affiliate link).
Logitech Brio 505 Camera and Microphone
I'm still traveling at the moment, which can make life a little interesting when it comes to organising and holding meetings online. This little webcam by Logitech has been one of the best buys in terms of functionality and affordability. It's compatible with Microsoft, Google Meet and Zoom.
And it also has dual microphones, which is helpful when the audio needs a bit of a boost because of sound conditions (aka dogs barking, background road noise, you name it). Plus, it's light and compact, which makes it great for the times I need to pack my office on on my back. (Affiliate link).
Wrap Up
And that's it for this week. Hoping that you're making good progress with writing more (aka marketing) about YOUR business. And that you're doing it in such a way that it will still be delivering returns to you months and years into the future.
